SKY JUMPERS VERTICAL SPORTS CLUB Organization and Management

Sky Jumpers Vertical Sports club (SJVSC) is a privately owned USAT&F club (#215 Pacific association). It has been organized for the purpose of developing HS, college, and open pole vaulting in the San Luis Obispo, California area. Its practices are held at 6505 Santa Cruz Rd Atascadero, Ca 93422. This location is the private residence of the Jan and Jani Johnson family.

Participation:

Participation shall be based upon the following criteria:

All participants must have a signed, completed, SJVSC application and payment on file with SJVSC prior to participation.

All participants must have medical insurance.

All participants must be current members with USAT&F.

Observers, parents, siblings, brothers, sisters, interested parties, and friends are invited to attend as observers, but may not participate in pole vaulting or other activities sjvsc offers.

Practices:

Practices will be scheduled on a random, but regular basis based upon the following criteria.

Seasonality
Jan Johnson’s availability
Long and short term goals of club constituents.
In general, our annual calendar is divided into the following areas of emphasis based upon seasonality and training/competitive cycles.

Winter ~~~ pre-season training and fitness
Spring ~~~ HS, College, and Open competitive season
Summer~~~ Play time, summer all-comers meets

Contests:

SJVSC will host several contests for its members during the course of a year. In general, these contests are as follows: May Day championships, Memorial Day championships, Independence Day championships, and Summer championships. In general, these contests are of a low key nature for the purpose of achieving a higher personal best, and to provide motivational stimuli for continued improvement.

All Time Performance Lists:

For the past several years SJVSC has researched and developed both men’s and women’s all time performers list for the central coast high school, college, and open vaulters. It is important to note that these lists are “unofficial”, and in fact, must be considered works in progress. SJVSC offers these lists as a way of comparison of participants past and present. All marks on the list must be achieved in competition.

Communications:

SJVSC will develop and distribute a schedule of practices on a monthly or semi monthly basis. This schedule will be emailed to club members, local high schools and college programs, and other interested parties in the San Luis Obispo County area. Club practice schedule and communications may also be obtained on the front of the club barn next to the chalk board.
Email is currently the primary method of communication between club members and management. We highly encourage you to check your email on a regular basis for schedule changes and other club news.
If you would like to be added to either the fax or email club distribution you may request it; by contacting SJVSC via fax at 1805 466-8273, or email at jan@skyjumpers.com . We also maintain a web site at www.skyjumpers.com our site is divided into several sections including club activities, safety, club records, training and many other topics.

Equipment:

Perhaps the most important aspect of SJVSC is its ability to provide its members with a truly unique and comprehensive facility for pole vaulting, and pole vault related activities. Please help us continue this service by taking care of our equipment. In this regard we need all club personnel to help cover things up, break things down and but poles away at the end of your practice.

Poles:

SJVSC has a huge supply of poles of all brands and sizes. It has been, and will continue to be the a club goal to develop a better, more efficient, and more comprehensive supply of poles. SJVSC cannot accomplish this goal with out the help and cooperation of its members.

Members are always welcome to use these poles at our facilities. However, SJVSC does not loan its poles to individuals or organizations to leave the club premises. When it is in the best interest to its club members; SJVSC will trade or barter poles of like values, for the purpose of improving its inventory position.

In addition, we strongly encourage club members and/or their schools to invest in poles so that all pole needs are more easily covered via the trading method.

Club goals:

As an overview, these are the goals sjvsc has set for the club.

1. To have each club member vault up to his or her goals and capabilities.

2. To have all members fully understand the mechanics of pole vaulting.

3. To find a grip and pole size that best suits each club member for every jump taken.

4. To have each club member master the basic and advanced drill progressions.

5. To have each club member improve his or her mental and physical fitness.

6. To have Esprit de corps, among all current and former sjvsc members, all the time.

7. To provide a comprehensive and unique facility for the purpose of developing the pole vault.
